In 1948 he graduated with a BSA from the University of Saskatchewan and moved to Wynyard where he had been appointed agricultural representative. During his 19 years there he established the first weed control unit in Saskatchewan, persuaded the municipality to buy and use a tree planter, convinced farmers to plant field shelterbelts, and started an annual 4-H beef club fair. An important contribution was his ag. rep. newsletter that provided useful information in such an entertaining fashion that it was widely read.

After obtaining his masters degree in extension education from the University of Wisconsin, he was transferred to Regina in 1967 where he became director of the Agricultural Representative Service for Saskatchewan. In 1970 he moved to Minnedosa, Manitoba, as agricultural representative. His talent for writing was put to use as he was founding managing editor for the United Grain Growers newspaper, ìGrainews.î The circulation started at 5,000 and rose rapidly to 65,000 as he encouraged farm people to use the paper as a medium for exchange of their own ideas and for obtaining useful advice on farm practices.

In 1976 Lin and family moved to Yorkton where he became farm management specialist with Saskatchewan Agriculture. He counselled farmers on maximizing returns and provided financial advice to farmers hard hit by the agricultural recession of the late 1980s and early 1990s.

He served a term as president of the Saskatchewan Institute of Agrologists and, when he took up his Yorkton post, he edited ìSAGAî, the publication of the Saskatchewan Agricultural Graduates Association.

Lin was an active participant in each community in which he lived. He served on the Wynyard town council, the Wynyard and Yorkton Legion branches, the chamber of commerce, the credit union and the church.

He passed away in 1991.
