That same year he joined the staff of the Saskatchewan Department of Agriculture as an assistant agricultural representative in the west central branch. In August, 1973 he was posted to Wakaw as agricultural representative.

He developed skills as a soils and crops specialist. From 1979 to 1982 he served as farm development specialist in Saskatoon and then for the next seven years was soils and crops specialist with Saskatchewan Agriculture in Saskatoon .

His successful work in this area led to a secondment with the University of Saskatchewan for an 18-month period. Here Larry worked as technology transfer coordinator with rural and agricultural services in extension. In 1995 he became a team leader with the Saskatchewan Agriculture extension service branch.

Larry was involved with the 4-H program at the district, regional and provincial levels. He worked with such programs as Save Our Soils, the Saskatchewan Soil Conservation Association, several Agricultural Development and Diversification boards, the North American Waterfowl Management Program, Ducks Unlimited, the Saskatchewan Herb and Spice Association and the Saskatchewan Pulse Growers.

He was active on committees of the Saskatchewan Institute of Agrologists and organized seminars which served as professional development opportunities.

A particularly notable accomplishment was his work with Professor Les Henry in the 1970s on soil salinity in west central Saskatchewan . Larry also played a key role in an extension marketing mission to Turkey , Pakistan and India in 2001 that significantly enlarged a major pulse market.

Larry died November 14, 2002 .
