Armenia Carlson attended Saskatoon Normal School and taught in the Watson and Viscount districts until she married Carl Clifford Carlson. They operated a dairy farm at Viscount until moving to the Tisdale district in 1941, where she began her more than 30 year involvement in rural education.

In recognition of her contribution to bettering the quality of rural living, Armenia Carlson received life memberships in the Saskatchewan Womenís Institute, the Saskatchewan School Trustees Association, and the Saskatchewan Agricultural Societies Association. She has held numerous positions as delegate, director, vice-president and president of these organizations at either the local, regional or provincial level. Armenia Carlson also served on the Agricultural Extension Committee for Ag. Rep. District #26 for more than 25 years.

Armenia Carlson was instrumental in fostering the growth of home-makers clubs (now Womenís Institutes) in north-eastern Saskatchewan during the 1950s and 1960s, and in the implementing of larger school units in Saskatchewan during the 1950s. She was very active in the Superintendency section of the Saskatchewan School Trustees Association, serving as vice-president for many years and helping to compile the first ìGuide to Superintendencyî. She was president of the Tisdale Superintendency for 10 years.

A charter member of the Golburn Agricultural Society, Armenia Carlson held various director positions, and has been an annual exhibitor. Her high quality exhibits have been an inspiration and education to others.

Armenia Carlson is a member and elder of St. Paulís United Church, Tisdale; and is a former member of church choirs in Viscount and Tisdale.

Working for improved services to rural communities and encouraging others to become involved in the decisions that would influence their lifestyles and community viability were key aspects of Armenia Carlsonís leadership to rural Saskatchewan.
