Born in Humboldt, Nebraska, in 1883, Guy Hummel came to Saskatchewan in 1905 and filed his claim on a homestead in the Nokomis district.
A life member of the Saskatchewan Grain Growersí Association, he served as local secretary for the Nokomis area for some years and in 1924 assisted in the drive to sign up members for the newly formed Saskatchewan Wheat Pool.
He was a member of the Nokomis Agricultural Society from its beginning and served as president from 1909 to 1916.
For 43 of his 45 years of municipal service, Mr. Hummel was reeve of the R.M. of Wreford. From 1948 until the time of his death, he served as chairman of the Nokomis Union hospital board. His service with the Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities included five years (1922-1927) as a director and vice-president, and seven years (1927-1934) as president.
He spent 40 consecutive years as an elected director of the Saskatchewan Municipal Hail Association and its subsidiary Additional Municipal Hail, serving as president of the latter from 1958 to 1964.
In 1934 he was elected Liberal member of the provincial legislature for Last Mountain constituency and served a four year term. For his outstanding public service, he received the King George V Silver Jubilee Medal in 1935.
